THE INHERITANTS PROJECT
by: La Fortuna, LLC
In community partnership with Community Arts and Culture, inc.

Established in 2012, The Inheritants Project is a Miami-based youth program dedicated to preserving Afro-Indigenous music and dance. Through our interactive stage events, we bring together a diverse group of students, teachers, proteges, mentors, parents, and children, to celebrate and share. Our goal is to empower individuals to take ownership of their heritage and to give them a professional platform to showcase their talents.

Project history, 2010
Authentic grassroots organizing that appeals to the community at large in a cohort effort to preserve the historical little river, bird sanctuary, and sacred breeding ground for manatees. Using local artists and community partnerships to bring a strong message that allows for action and resolution of a community trash crisis. The serenade is a tribute and celebrates the river and its history, as sung by the voices of the women of the community on this day of service event. The Inheritants Project engages the community in traditional Afro-Indigenous water blessing, informative climate change, water table education, land stewardship, land and wildlife preservation, and historical land stewardship awareness throughout Florida waterways and the Middle Rio Grande of Southwest New Mexico. Our songs are strong and authentic, and maintain the ancient tradition of praises and gratitude to the water and bring forth awareness of open space and the importance of nature untouched.
